Artist-Curator Biography /
Holeng b.1982 is a multi-disciplinary artist and an independent curator, born in Singapore. She is a cofounder of an international curatorial collective 7x8curators, and has worked with mid-career artists in Europe. 'Free will', the ability to act and think freely, conveying to what the innate derives. Holeng approaches contemporary art through cathartic moments based on why is mostly 'felt', rather of what has been 'seen'. She expresses herself artistically in curating, photography, video art and writing. Recognizing beauty in imperfection and chaos, its visual meaning is thus intensified, transposing a sense of métier and without prejudice. For Holeng, her works speaks for itself, exposing illicit truths in our world of superficiality. She curated the photography exhibition 'An Urban Analogue', which was prominently addressed in the Annual International Visual Sociology Association Conference 2013 in Goldsmiths, London UK. She holds a MA in Photography & Urban Cultures from Goldsmiths University of London, and also participated in two curatorial residencies – a year in Vienna, Austria and a month intensive with Humboldt University Berlin, Germany. Her past projects included a paper on Lyrical Memoirs at ‘Southeast Asia in Transition Symposium’ (2014) at University of Oxford UK, guest-artist talk at Independent Curators International New York (ICI) 2015, and the recent 7x8curators’ contemporary art exhibition - Postscript: Correspondent Works ‘An Epistolary work between artist and curator’ in ARTq13 Rome, Italy. |
